SOFTIMAGE Sets Course at Full Sail University
University created for the entertainment industry to offer training classes in SOFTIMAGE|XSI professional 3D software beginning fall 2008
MONTRÉAL, Québec, September 3, 2008 —Softimage Co., a part of Avid Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: AVID), today announced that Full Sail University (Winter Park, Fla.) will begin offering classes this fall in SOFTIMAGE®|XSI®, a leading professional 3D animation software for games, film and television. The award-winning accredited university, which is already installed with a wide range of video and sound engineering technologies from the Avid® family of entertainment solutions, is renowned for its real-world, around-the-clock schedule—which exposes students to the rigors of how the entertainment industry really operates. SOFTIMAGE|XSI software is the latest installment of professional content creation tools offered in the Full Sail Software Technology program.
Responding to the growing demand for SOFTIMAGE|XSI trained artists and technical directors—and encouragement from its own staff—Full Sail purchased SOFTIMAGE|XSI education licenses earlier this year so its faculty members, many industry veterans themselves, could began building course materials and training packages. Starting fall 2008, advanced students enrolled in the 21-month computer animation degree program, will have access to SOFTIMAGE|XSI software.
"We made the decision to add SOFTIMAGE|XSI to our curriculum based on the inspiring technology and people that come from Softimage, the noticeable strides the company has been making in the past two years, the demand from our students, and the growing number of studios looking for trained XSI artists and technical directors," said Pete Bandstra, program director, Computer Animation and Game Art, Full Sail University.
Full Sail University is especially excited to offer SOFTIMAGE|XSI to allow its students, who may be familiar with other 3D software programs, to learn the techniques and workflows in SOFTIMAGE|XSI, and become skilled in mixed-studio, mixed-pipeline creative environments. Students will also be able to explore and experiment with the new Softimage ICE (Interactive Creative Environment) platform—a visual, node-based way to extend SOFTIMAGE|XSI software and build complex tools for particle-based effects. The ICE platform just began shipping as an integrated part of SOFTIMAGE|XSI 7 in August 2008.
"Since the introduction of SOFTIMAGE|XSI 7 with the new ICE platform, offering quality, certified training at more schools and world-class institutions like Full Sail University has been a top priority," said Marc Stevens, general manager of Softimage and vice president of Avid Technology, Inc. “SOFTIMAGE|XSI with Full Sail University will play an integral role in helping tomorrow’s game, film or visualization artists realize their goals."
